2016: A New Year, Many New Beginnings

Happy New Year, everyone! Hope you all had a fantastic last few weeks of December and introduction to 2016. As I detailed in my last post, I was out traveling for most of that time, and I'm really glad to be back at home and near my gaming PC. With that said, I still got a decent amount of gaming done while I was at home following the trips. I'm starting new games and campaigns all over the place, it seems...

Assassin's Creed

Just before I flew out, a buddy of mine bought me Assassin's Creed II. Having not actually started the Assassin's Creed franchise, I was excited to finally have an excuse to start playing. Needless to say, I've been having a great time. My background with the Spanish language (minimal as it is) has contributed greatly to understanding bits of the Italian spoken in the background, almost to the point that I turned on subs only to make sure I was staying current with the more important English dialogue. While I'm mostly falling off of things and accidentally punching people while forgetting controls, I'm enjoying the heck out of the game and will be playing it when I can.

Guild Wars 2

I'm excited to announce that I'm still completely enamored by Guild Wars 2. Having decided to get in on the guilds scene just for fun, I joined up with a friendly guild and have been socializing with their vast, hilarious community. (Mostly about prepping fish, if you were curious.) I'm about level 50, now, and I'll be continuing to level as steadily as I can. My goal is to hit 80 by my birthday in March.

Civ V

Oh Civ, and how it eats away at the night... Curly insisted that we begin another game of Civilization V, and it's been pretty great. Pretty great as in that we've had to team up to trounce the barbarian issue between our border. I'm about five points ahead of him as Egypt, and as usual, he's Japan. I'll be updating scores on Twitter as time goes on.

Do any of you play Civ? I've been considering reaching out a little more to play that and Don't Starve Together more often.

Even though I've been away from the table for months now, my love for D&D has not stopped with my attendance. Due to my friends wanting to play D&D but not having the time, I've decided to take it upon myself to try and write an adventure that can be played in one night (6-8 hours) with rich story components and a little something for the whole party to do. I'll definitely be providing updates as this goes along.

Speaking of D&D, check out this awesome article by Emily Gaudette!

Brought up to me by Sabriel Mastin on Twitter, I found the Reddit community of 12in12, which focuses on playing and posting progress on 12 games a year - one per month. There are themes for each month for those who want to go in that direction. I'm using the twelve themes to play a lot of games that I know my friends like, but didn't exactly fit the kinds of things that I post about here. I'll be writing about them anyways now that I have more of an excuse to play them.

Now that I have what my month is going to be like out there, I'm hoping to touch on these topics and have a great January! Check back here soon.
